With a career spanning more than seven decades, John Olsen is one of Australia’s most celebrated artists. Painted as a commission in 1963 ‘Five Bells’ was inspired by Kenneth Slessor’s poem of the same name and drew upon Olsen’s emotional and physical connection to Sydney Harbour.
