One of the most popular photographs in the Art Gallery of New South Wales collection, Sunbaker by Australian photographer Max Dupain, had humble beginnings. Dupain captured the image of a friend sunbathing after a swim whilst on a camping trip in the 1930s. It was not published until over a decade later and through a series of exhibitions became that icon of the Australian coastal lifestyle that it is today.
