One of Australia’s most significant artists, Margaret Preston was a key figure in the development of modern art in Sydney. Wheelflower (c1929) is one of her most exuberant prints and represents the flower from the firewheel tree which is native to the coastal rainforests of Queensland and northern New South Wales. A contrast to her more formal still life compositions, Wheelflower is wild and dynamic - much like the tree itself!
