Australian artist Margaret Preston believed that the best subjects for modern art were to be found in everyday life and the simple yet stunning arrangements of wildflowers and native blooms that adorned her surroundings were regular features in her paintings and prints. Painted in 1928 Western Australian gum blossom perfectly captures the pale green leaves and pink blossoms of its namesake in the artist’s signature modernist style.
