Established in 1871, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is Sydney's premier art museum. The Gallery moved to its current location in the centre of Sydney, bordered by the harbour, parklands and gardens, in 1874. From the original small neo-classical sandstone building, the Gallery has expanded with contemporary architectural additions. Modern and contemporary artworks are displayed in expansive, light-filled spaces, while the splendid Grand Courts are home to a distinguished collection of colonial Australian works and European old masters. There are also dedicated galleries celebrating the arts of Asia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and photography.
This beautifully illustrated souvenir book highlights over 100 works from the Gallery's extensive collection of Australian and international art, along with an overview of the Gallery's history.
